About Matthew

Matthew first became interested in holistic medicine while studying for a Comparative Religions degree at San Diego State University. During his time in college a back injury lead him to his first acupuncture and chiropractic experiences and he has been hooked ever since.

After moving to Oregon in 2001, he spent two years in a western herb and botany apprenticeship at Columbine School of Botanical Studies in Eugene. He also worked for four seasons at Wintergreen Farm, the largest CSA biodynamic organic farm in the state. Matthew studied acupuncture at the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine and received a masters degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2007. He has been practicing acupuncture in Newberg ever since at his clinic Chehalem Acupuncture. He is licensed with the Oregon Medical Board and certified through the NCCAOM.

Matthew has traveled to Nanjing China where he completed advanced study in both acupuncture and herbal medicine at various hospitals around the the city. The experience helped to broaden his knowledge and clinical skills. It was a great opportunity to see how Traditional Chinese Medicine is practiced in its native land, fully integrated with Western Biomedicine in a truly complementary health care system.

He has also done extensive advanced study in many different acupuncture techniques including Dr. Richard Tan's Balance Method, Master Tung's Acupuncture System, Traditional Chinese Medicine and Trigger Point Therapy. These treatment styles are extremely powerful and often have immediate results. In many cases a patient's pain can be significantly reduced within minutes of inserting the needles.

Matthew lives in Dundee with his wife and two kids.
